Nellie McKay
A sharp and thoughtful artist lurking beneath the surface of a sunny, playful chanteuse, Nellie McKay is a singer songwriter who plays piano and ukelele. Nellie’s performing style is largely informed by vintage jazz and vocal pop, with occasional dashes of indie rock and hip-hop. McKay’s songs are witty and stylish variations on the themes of the Great American Songbook (she’s been compared to Cole Porter more than once), but often feature pointed satirical observations on politics and society. (On her website, McKay states, “Nellie is an annoyingly vocal advocate for feminism, civil rights and other deeply felt progressive ideals.”)
