4 p.m.

Viktor Antipenko

Eugene Sirotkine

Tenor Viktor Antipenko and Pianist and Conductor Eugene Sirotkine, both St. Petersburg-born and trained in that city’s famed conservatory, will perform a selection of arias and songs in The Chapel Restoration on Sunday, August 21, at 4. The concert is free.

The two artists met as teacher and student in Mr. Sirotkine’s “Discover Music!” class, an innovative program to help young musicians find themselves in today’s music scene. They have now come together in a remarkable musical collaboration.

After his own debut with the Latvian Philharmonic in St. Petersburg in 1989, Mr. Sirotkine went on to conduct orchestras and choruses across the globe, including the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Symphony Orchestra UN Cuyo in Argentina, the National Symphony Orchestra in Rio de Janeiro, the Cape Philharmonic and Cape Town Opera in South Africa, and the New York Metamorphoses Orchestra in collaboration with the Paul Taylor Dance Company at New York City Center and with the Kennedy Center Orchestra in Washington, D.C. He was also an assistant conductor and assistant chorus master with the Metropolitan Opera from 1999 through 2008. He is currently director of the Hudson Valley Singers and the Metamorphoses Orchestra.

Mr. Antipenko has sung solo roles with the Mariinsky Opera Chorus, under the baton of Valery Gergiev, in Eugene Onegin, The Queen of Spades, Boris Godunov, Khovantchina, The Gambler, The Nose, La Forza del Destino and Fidelio, among others. Again under the aegis of his former teacher, he was awarded a scholarship to the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, a premier training ground for the next generation of opera singers, where he is in his second year.
