The Hui Cox/Nioka Workman Project began as a simple acoustic Jazz Duo. The duo produced a sampler of Jazz standards last year. In 2011, 7-String guitarist, Hui Cox and 5-string cellist, Nioka Workman expanded the ambient Jazz duo to create original compositions that explore world music rhythm, electronic soundscapes and Jazz thematic material. This version of The Hui Cox/Nioka Workman Project will include John Bollinger on drums, performing songs from their latest recording project, to be released this summer. The duo’s CD of original compositions feature the most creative percussionists on the NYC new music scene: Micheal Wimberley, Brother Num, Steve Williams and John Bollinger. This first CD is the fruit of both Cox and Workman's combined trans-continental experiences, having toured with great artists such as Richie Haven, Cassandra Wilson, Cooper-Moore, Kanye West, Saul Williams and many others. The Hui Cox/Nioka Workman Project blends together their concepts as accomplished artists and flex their muscles as new music composers.
