Soprano Julianne Heckert of Garrison and baritone Michael McKee will perform a selection of operatic arias and songs in The Chapel Restoration on Sunday, June 12, at 4. Paul Heckert will accompany them on piano.
Julianne Endler Heckert toured for a year as Swing in the last Bus & Truck production of the Broadway musical Evita under the direction of Hal Prince. She has performed in a number of operas, including the roles of Cherubino in Mozart’s Nozze di Figaro at Operafestival di Roma, Charlotte in Massenet's Werther and Octavian in Richard Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier. As a member of the Collegiate Chorale under the direction of Robert Bass, she has sung oratorio at Carnegie Hall and elsewhere in New York City, and has performed an extensive classical and original art song repertoire in recital with her husband, Paul, at the piano. Ms. Heckert, who began voice studies at Skidmore College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in theatre arts, is currently in the highly acclaimed choir of St. Philips Church in Garrison.
Michael McKee has performed in musicals such as Damn Yankees, Camelot and The Boyfriend. After a long hiatus building a career as a psychologist, he has returned to sing solos in Saint Saens’ Christmas Oratorio, Mozart’s Requiem, and Benjamin Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, at St. Philip’s Church, and, most recently, Brahms’ German Requiem with the choir of St. Philip’s. This year, he was in the cast of Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht’s Threepenny Opera at Philipstown Depot Theatre. Mr. McKee trained to be an actor and singer at the University of Washington Professional Actor Training Program.
Paul Heckert is Music Director, St. John’s Episcopal Church, Cornwall, New York. For many years he was music director for many productions at Philipstown Depot Theatre and James O’Neill High School, Highland Falls. He holds bachelor and master’s degrees in composition from New England Conservatory of Music
